Macworld user reviews IN DETAIL:
Good start
Very nice interface and most importantly access to All Things Considered and Morning Edition. The playlist function has some problems though. Provides a message about "Item no longer available" when it is in fact available. Also can't delete items from playlist using Edit button - causes app to crash. Poor Edge performance causes the app to crash. It's a great first step but needs work.
Great information
This is one of the best free apps for news, if not the best. Headlines, individual audio reports, streaming audio of NPR programs, program archives. It makes taking NPR on the road very easy. This app will be running when I'm in the gym.The app is well designed and very easy to use.
Near-perfect news source
I've only had the NPR app a couple of days but I'm already addicted. The app is well-designed and easy to use. In the first screen, you can scroll quickly through the latest headlines. Each has a brief synopsis so you can get the gist of the story. Most also have audio stories attached, which you can add to a playlist, a bit like making an on-the-go iPod playlist. You can also tune into any NPR station in the United States. Sure, WunderRadio already does this, but if you're a big public radio fan, this limits the choices specifically to public radio stations. You can also bookmark favorites and search by location (including nearest station). There are a few improvements to be made. The app lets you e-mail friends ... but only to announce the app's existence. Why not link this feature with the stories themselves? It would be great to e-mail a story to a friend, and if NPR wants to advertise their terrific app at the bottom of each e-mail, fine by me.The app so far doesn't support landscape viewing either - a bit frustrating when trying to read a news story. And while the text is clear, the app doesn't support zoom features, either. A few tweaks taking advantage of the iPhone's capabilities would go a long way toward perfecting this app.
