Our user reviews IN DETAIL:
Mostly good
I like a pretty UI, but I settled for this app (and its desktop counterpart) for 3 reasons. First, the cost. For $35, I got the desktop and iphone apps. Things costs $60, while Omni costs $100. Second, the cloud sync works great. Finally, the simplicity and power. Everything is in front of you by default. No need to search or find tasks that are hidden in folders. Also you have ultimate flexibility when it comes to subtasks. Sometimes you have to break it down further than some apps allow. One problem with the iphone app, if you delete (cut) something, there is no undo. If you accidentally delete, you have to go the desktop app and recover from an autosave.
TaskPaper is great
Great to see the iPhone version of TaskPaper reviewed. TaskPaper is an incredibly powerful yet simple app. But the great black hole of Mac development these days is syncing and specifically iPhone syncing. There are apparently still issues with syncing, although all the other task apps have those issues. At least with TaskPaper if your sync falls out of whack, it's plain text to fix.
Favorite app
I'm absolutely delighted by TaskPaper for the iPhone. I use my iPod touch primarily to take on-the-go notes and ideas about my writing and it's perfect for that. The notes are easy to take, compact, and, because they're in a hierarchical bulleted list, a delight to read, much more so that any other note-taking application I've tried. The good doesn't end there. As an outliner, it's wonderfully intuitive, including the swipe to delete, and the @ keyword screening of what is displayed makes it far more powerful for to-do lists the apps simplicity would suggest. TaskPaper's clever design allows a simple interface to conceal enormous power. Most important of all, I can auto-sync those notes via WiFi with the same documents on my iMac or MacBook, reading and editing them there in TaskPaper. I can also import those noted directly into Scrivener, when I want to get down the the business of writing. My only gripe, taken up with Scrivener's developer, is that, once imported into Scrivener, all TaskPaper' marvelous select what you display features disappear. And that's not the fault of TaskPaper's developer. I can't recommend TaskPaper more highly. I gave it five stars only because you won't let me give it six or seven.
Full opposite to desktop version
Taskpaper for Mac is very natural and intuitive to use. Really quick and handy. Just like plain text but with tags. But same concept on iPhone just doesnt feel right. At all. I don't want to swipe - I want to touch. And this is not like in Tweetie or Reeder - you won't get menu or special functions, swipe is just to complete your task. Any other task manager like Things or 2Do is more natural. As for untethered syncing. What it good for? I've tried several times and still it cannot sync my desktop task file with simpletext.ws service. And for simpletext desktop app - just another few pixels in my menubar? I prefer "direct" wi-fi syncing. Even you are a Taskpaper Mac fan, look for something else. This app is huge disappointment
