My Med ID is an application that lets you gather all of your pertinent medical information in one place. First responders know to look for the in case of emergency contact (ICE) on your cell phone. My Med ID takes this one-step further by allowing first responders and medical personnel to access this information. In this application you can simply input any illnesses you may have, medications, allergies, ICE, preferred hospital, physician’s phone numbers, and blood type. The application may help to eliminate confusion and drug interactions. My Med ID also makes it easier to access all pertinent information while at a doctor’s office or pharmacy.

What’s in this version: Enter basic medical information such as illneses, allergies, medications you are taking, doctors telephone names and numbers and more!

If you want your information accessible you must follow these steps. However, please be aware that if you remove your password all of your information on your entire iPhone will be visible:

1. Go to settings;
2. General;
3. Disable Passcode lock (a code will no longer be required to access your iPhone information);
4. Now your iPhone is accessible by anyone who picks it up by sliding the unlock bar when the iPhone is turned on. Only do this if you want all of your information accessible to someone else;
5. Test by pressing the top power button briefly, the screen will go black and then pressing again to turn it on.

Disclaimer: Note that any information you put on your phone may be accessed by others. This information is therefore, not secure and should only be entered if you wish others to see it. Further, the makers of this application make no warranties either express or implied as to the ability for any medical professional, first responder or other personnel to access this information or use it in accordance with your wishes. My Med ID Review

Medical info app could come in handy in an emergency

Emergency medical personnel are trained to look for an ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact on a mobile phone if they cannot communicate with the the victim. My Med ID from Imadjine takes this concept a step further by providing more detailed medical information. Still, there are some downsides to the app you should be aware before relying on My Med ID.

In Case of Emergency: My Med ID lets you enter medical and contact data, including any allergies you might have or medications you might be taking.

My Med ID allows you to enter medical and contact information in a number of categories: Conditions, Medications, Doctors, Contacts, and notes. (Ideally, contact information would link directly to the entry in the address book of your iPhone or iPod touch, but it does not.) There are certain medical conditions that are crucial for doctors to know about in an emergency situation, and the faster they can access that information, the better.

The link between your ICE contact and My Med ID is not completely seamless—if a medical technician were to look up your ICE contact via your iPhone’s Contacts app, there’s obviously no way to directly launch My Med ID from there. The best workaround I found for this was to add a line that to the ICE contact that says “Please open My Med ID app for more information.”

My Med ID has another notable downside. If you have a passcode lock on your phone, no one will be able to get to the information on My Med ID. So you would have to remove any passcode locks to ensure that the information in My Med ID could be accessed. However, if there’s no passcode lock, anyone who uses your phone could, theoretically, view the medical information you’ve stored in My Med ID. That’s sure to unnerve users concerned about their privacy.

My Med ID is a nicely designed, easy-to-use app that may provide a valuable service for some people. But it comes with some privacy downsides—it’s up to individual users to decide whether the benefits of having medical information at hand in an emergency outweigh the risks I outline above.
