Velvet Vine Wine Pro Review

iPhone and iPod touch options abound for oenophiles

Wine can be so intimidating. If only it was a simple matter of red and white. Instead, the drinker confronts a bewildering array of varietals, regions, vintages and terminology

Macworld user reviews IN DETAIL:

Needs work...

I researched wine apps as extensively as I could before committing to purchasing this app. Initially I was happy with it - just entering basic wines. But then....Where a vinter is unknown, you have the ability to enter them manually. Unfortunately EVERYTHING about this vinter is from thereon FULLY manual. No drop down meanus are available to select varietal, year, etc. All must be typed in.Currently there is no way to incluse a picture of the vinters logo as this info is held server side not client side. According to the developers, this is coming. But the very worst thing about this app is that entered data is totally uneditable. Pop in that great bottle of wine you just drank, add your photo, etc. MArvellous. But, oh no, you got the year wrong! Never fear, all you need to do is DELETE THE WHOLE ENTRY and re-enter it. I had this happen in a restaurant - totally ludicrous programming ommission.Lastly, I have sent 4-5 emails/feedback/suggestions to the developers. To date one reply (that's how I know they are thinking about adding client side vinter pics). Pretty poor PR in my opinion. And the weekend after buying the app their servers went down and I couldn't sync to them (you MUST sync a new wine before it allows you to add a pic - another dumb piece of programming). Their explanation was that their dmain name provider hadn't re-registered their name. Whatever.Bottom line of this app as it stands, look elsewhere.
