Expand on the iPhone camera’s capabilities with this handy photo app

When counting down the ways Apple set the bar for smartphones, it’s safe to say that the phone’s built-in camera—even with the improvements introduced with the iPhone 3GS—won’t find its way onto the list. With low resolution—the 3GS offers 3 megapixels, the other models just 2 megapixels—and no flash or zoom, the iPhone’s camera leaves a lot to be desired.

Macworld user reviews IN DETAIL:

Improves on iPhone camera software

Overall, Camera Genius' feature set is great! The burst shots (2 on 3G, 3 on 3GS) are a welcome feature, as well as the zoom, which, as long as you don't zoom too far, doesn't distort the pictures all that much. The shake-proof feature waits until you're steady to take the picture, and the "big button" feature makes the whole screen the shutter button. Both work well. I also like the "sound capture" feature, which waits for a noise signal (a clap, "cheese", etc.) to take the feature. And if you're in a noisy room, it adjusts to the current volume and waits for a sound that exceeds that. Unfortunately, the $1.99 price tag dissappointed me ? especially when I realized I could buy Snapture for $.99 and get basically the same features (plus a few more).

Best of the bunch

I tried several of the camera apps, this one is outstanding. As the Macworld review states, you can't do much about the hardware, but this app does maximize what you can accomplish with what you've got.
