Our user reviews IN DETAIL:
Extra-helpful on the road
I've been on the road a lot this year, and Tripit's really made all the difference in making it easier to manage. No more manila folders with printouts, no more notebooks with detailed itineraries -- I can manage it all on my iPhone. (It's even saved my bacon a few times by helping me visualize an itinerary, most notably the time I booked a hotel reservation to start a day late.) It's surprising how easy it is to submit a booking to Tripit via e-mail, and they've improved the service several times since I first registered about a year ago. One particularly annoying bug's been resolved: if you update a trip in Orbitz or Orbitz for Business, Orbitz includes the entire itinerary, and until recently, if you forwarded that to Tripit, you got duplicate entries. It's worth noting the sheer breadth of online booking services Tripit supports importing via e-mail: Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, all the major airlines' Web sites, OpenTable, etc. (On the list of sites they don't support: Amtrak. Hmm.) Lex Friedman is right that the Tripit iPhone app doesn't show historical high/low temperatures. Strangely, the Tripit mobile Web site does. I'd also like the iPhone app to switch from historical weather to a real forecast, say, the day before the trip begins. One other note, about app notifications. That's a Tripit Pro feature: $49/year gets you SMS notifications, trip monitoring, loyalty points tracking, etc. It's great if you fly a retrograde airline like US Airways or a discount carrier, but probably not worth it if you fly a 21st-century airline that can send you SMSes and automatically rebook you if you miss a connection. But that's a bit steep if all you want is SMS notifications of flight info, etc.
Great road warrior app
This app is a must have for any frequent traveler. Simply forward your travel confirmations to a tripit email address-- plans@ tripit.com-- and tripit will organize the reservations into compete itineraries. One of the bonuses is the inclusion of maps to hotels. These maps are integrated directly with the native google maps application, allowing for quick and easy driving directions. They have a pro-version but I'm not sure what more most travelers would need other than this free version.
