The popular database of every Mac ever made comes in mobile form, too

If, like many iPhone and iPod touch owners, you also happen to be a Mac user, selecting which Mac is pretty straightforward since you can buy any computer you want as long as it comes from Apple. However, Apple has still managed to crank out hundreds of models over the years. How does even the most dedicated Mac fan keep them all straight?

Macworld user reviews IN DETAIL:

The best Macintosh history app ever.

This app is a must-have. It not only gives you a text history of each apple made computer, iPod, iPhone, and newton, but it also gives you the startup and shutdown sounds.

Good concept and execution, limited usefulness

The famous Mactracker application comes to the iPhone/iPod touch. Information on nearly every Mac model ever made, as well as servers, operating systems, and devices such as displays, PDAs, iPods and more. Good concept and execution, although it would greatly benefit from a photograph of each model. in the future, it would be cool to see charts and graphs of the various models based on parameters you enter, although I realize this would be a considerable programming challenge and only feasible for a paid application.

Would be five all the way if

Would be five all the way if it had the death chimes and images of the products you can read all you want to know about something but you need to see it to really get a picture

Great for showing your friends how much of a Mac Geek you are!

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you needed to tell a friend how much RAM a Mac Classic shipped with? Well, I haven't, but if I need to know the answer to that question, MacTracker could answer it. Like its desktop counterpart, MacTracker for the iPhone/ iPod touch allows you to look up the specs of every Mac computer ever made. The program also has the specs of other Apple related hardware and software. Want to know about System Software 5 or the Apple LaserWriter Plus, MacTracker can tell you all about it. This is a nicely done app and it has the potential to keep you entertained for hours (maybe not). Anyway if you are embarrassed to have this app on your iPhone, just store it on page 5 or 6 and maybe your friends wont find it!

Great for looking up Apple products specs, and not much else.

The app description mentioned the ability to enter the info of Apple products you own, as well as look up specs on everything. I can only make it look up specs, with no data entry possible. For mac collectors it is indispensable, for the rest of us it is a novelty app.
