Seybold: Extensis PrintReady preflighting system debuts

Extensis Inc., though being acquired by Celartem Technology, is moving ahead with its product line. Today at the Seybold San Francisco conference and expo, Extensis introduced PrintReady, a Web-based system for preflighting, collecting, and submitting files for printed output. The PrintReady line runs on Mac 8.6-9.2.2 -- alas, it runs in Mac OS X only as a "Classic" application.

Based on Extensis' Preflight Online technology, PrintReady is a new family of products designed to simplify preflighting and make it a seamless part of the file submission process, said Joseph Schorr, senior product manager for PrintReady. The product line includes solutions for designers and small workgroups and two enhanced packages aimed at service providers, large printers and publishers.

PrintReady, the lowest-cost (US$349.95) package, is targeted to designers, printers, and publishers, offering built-in preflight, file collection and FTP capabilities through a Web interface. An interactive "help" function shows users how to fix potential printing problems and customizable profiles allow them to fine-tune preflight reports. The PrintReady license includes up to five users and an unlimited number of workstations. This product includes free updates and upgrades. PrintReady offers an unlimited number of file inspections.

PrintReady Service Provider Edition ($1,999.95) is for printers, service bureaus, and publishers. It can be used to provide customized preflight, collection and file delivery capabilities for customers without requiring them to buy or configure anything. PrintReady's interface is customizable and job tracking and reporting can be done user-by-user. PrintReady Service Provider Edition includes up to 12,000 file inspections annually and includes free updates and upgrades.

PrintReady Enterprise Edition ($9,999.95) -- also designed for printers, service bureaus, and publishers -- provides customized preflight, collection and file delivery capabilities for customers without requiring them to buy or configure anything. It can store and post results of each preflight inspection in XML format, allowing for full integration with existing online job tickets and customer databases. What's more, the Enterprise Edition includes a 24-hour Platinum Maintenance Agreement and up to 30,000 file inspections annually. PrintReady Enterprise Edition includes free updates and upgrades.

The above prices reflect one year of PrintReady service that can be renewed on a yearly basis for a suggested retail price of $99.95 for PrintReady, $599.95 for Service Provider Edition, and $4,999.95 for the Enterprise Edition. Upgrades are available for registered users of Preflight Pro at a suggested retail price of $199.95 and Collect Pro starting at a suggested retail price of $149.95. All three PrintReady packages are available for purchase immediately from the Extensis Web site.
