M-Systems' new flash disk offers up to 90GB capacity

M-Systems announced on Wednesday that they have released a new solid-state ATA-6 flash disk that offers an Ultra ATA interface in a 2.5-inch case, with storage capacity up to 90GB. Its fast security erase and purge features comply with security guidelines issued by the Department of Defense, the National Security Agency, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Navy, and it's capable of operating at high altitudes and in extreme conditions.

The new flash disk features a 100MB per second burst read/write rate with a 40MB per second sustained read/write rate. It's good for 5,000,000 write/erase cycles, with unlimited read time. It offers DMA 0-5, DMA 0-2, and PIO 0-4 transfer modes as well as Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) for increased reliability.

M-Systems notes that the new drive, which comes with a five-year warranty, was designed as a drop-in replacement for 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SCSI and ATA mechanical hard drives. Capacity starts at 1GB and goes up to 90GB.
