My Wireless Wish

I’ve been thinking a lot about networking lately. After finally setting up my own wireless network at home, I now find I’m not satisfied with just connecting my Macs. I want to connect everything -- the TV, the stereo, the thermostat, you name it.

So when I came across the PhotoVu PV1900, a 19-inch framed LCD screen that hangs on the wall and wirelessly pulls photos off of your Mac, I started thinking. Why limit yourself to photos? Why not make a mountable screen that also displays shared calendars and to-do lists?

Every so often this wireless device would go online and sync up with each family member’s shared calendar. There could be buttons on the front that let you switch between photo, calendar, and task views. Perhaps you could even change the view remotely, to leave an important message on the screen for another family member. And to top it off, you’d be able to quickly sync a Bluetooth phone or handheld organizer with it on your way out the door.

Sure, you can do a lot of this already with your Mac. But why should I have to turn on my computer just to check the day's schedule? I want something I can hang right next to the front door—in the spot where our paper calendar currently resides. I want a wall calendar that I never have to replace and that is always up-to-date.

And when you're done with that, we can talk about my idea for a wireless margarita mixer.
