OneStat.com: Safari worldwide percentage inches upward

Microsoft's Internet Explorer remains the dominant Web browser with 93.9 percent market share, but Apple's Safari browser is showing progress as well, according to a new report published by Web analytics company OneStat.com. The service reports that Safari's share of global Web browser usage has increased from 0.48 to 0.71 percent since January 2004.

That makes Safari seventh of the most popular browsers on the Web, according to OneStat.com's report. Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0 combine for 93.9 percent of the market, while Mozilla is used by 2.1 percent of Web users. Opera grabs about 1.02 percent, while Internet Explorer 4.0 is still used by about 0.6 percent of users worldwide.

OneStat.com's technology is installed on 50,000 Web sites in 100 countries. The company samples Web browser usage based on a sample of 2 million visitors divided into 20,000 visitors of 100 countries each day.
