Ambrosia's Apeiron game goes OS X

Ambrosia Software Inc.'s homage to Centipede, Apeiron, is a bona fide classic Mac game, though many gamers have stopped playing since migrating to Mac OS X. Now Apeiron is back -- you can now download Apeiron X, a Mac OS X-native version of this fast-paced arcade game.

Apeiron X's core gameplay is unchanged from the original -- you're still a crystal shard blasting the Pentipede and his other pals through the mushroom patch. Bonus multipliers and power up coins will pop up from time to time to keep you on your toes, as well. Some updates have been made to the game, including the ability to play in a window, new high-res graphics, a larger playing area, and the ability to track high scores through the Internet.

Apeiron X runs on Power Mac G3s or faster, with Mac OS X v10.1 or later or Mac OS 8.0 or later. Distributed as shareware, you can download and try Apeiron X for free, and it costs US$15 to register -- or $5 if you've already registered a previous version.
