Compression Engine 2 adds MPEG-2, DV transcoding

Stockholm, Sweden-based Popwire on Tuesday announced that it is shipping Compression Engine 2, a digital media encoding system for broadcasters, media companies and others. Compression Engine 2 runs on Mac OS X and enables users to encode video to and from common media standards -- distributing to television, post-production, Web or mobile phones.

Highlights in the new release include support for Real SureStream, MPEG-2 and DV transcoding. Also new in this release are a new speed and quality-optimized MPEG-4 implementation, 2-pass H.263, support for in and out points, a fractional frame rate filter, EVRC and QCELP speech codecs and streaming support for 3GPP2, transcoding between NTSC and PAL, MPEG-2 VBR support and HD input.

Compression Engine 2 requires an Xserve G4 or better with at least 1GB RAM, Mac OS X v10.3 and QuickTime 6.5. Pricing was not announced.
