Desktop search engine Blinkx comes to the Mac

Developer Blinkx has announced Mac compatibility for its Blinkx search engine. Blinkx examines the open documents, Web pages and other files on your computer and provides links to relevant content both local and on the Internet. Those links, which are generated within the context of what you are viewing, can lead to Web pages or files on your computer, complete with thumbnail previews that help you determine whether they're worthwhile.

You can also use Blinkx to create smart folders, which continuously search for and draw in relevant information based on either the document you placed in it or the keywords you supplied. Blinkx is a free download -- the developer draws its funds from the companies that pay to place ads for their products and services in the search engine's shopping channel, which users can ignore or disable.

Blinkx plans to officially announce Mac support on Monday, when the Mac version will become available for download from the company's Web site. Mac OS X v10.2 is required.

1/7/05, 12:40 PM EST: Added information about availability and system requirements.
