MWSF: Aspyr announces Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005

Aspyr Media Inc. will publish Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 for the Macintosh in May, the company announced at this week's Macworld Expo in San Francisco. It's the latest version of the popular golf game franchise featuring golf superstar Tiger Woods and other real-world PGA Tour pros, published for the PC by Electronic Arts. It will soon be available for pre-order for US$39.95.

The game is being developed for the Macintosh in-house by Aspyr Studios. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 features "Tiger Proofing" course alteration, which lets you modify course dynamics, add lengthier "Tiger Tees," tighter fairways, contours to greens, deeper bunkers and more, all for added challenge. You can customize the looks of your golfers by using "Game Face" technology that adjusts the bone scaling and texture blending used to render the characters. You can also tee off against golf legends like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan.

Preliminary system requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.6 or later, G4/1GHz or faster, 256MB RAM, 2.5GB free hard disk space, ATI Radeon 8500 or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or better 3D graphics with at least 32MB VRAM and a DVD drive. Multiplayer features also require Internet or LAN access. Aspyr's Web site was not updated with information about the new game as MacCentral posted this article.

In related news, Aspyr has also announced that it has updated its Game Agent software, which compares the specifications of your Mac to the recommended system requirements for Aspyr's games and tells you what's likely to play well on your machine. The new update now includes Apple's published specifications of its Mac mini, the $499 headless Macintosh unit unveiled on Tuesday and expected to ship by the end of next week.
