Tangelo handles weblog creation

Brad Rhine Software on Tuesday introduced Tangelo, a weblog creation application for Mac OS X and Windows. The software requires on a valid Web server with File Transfer Protocol (FTP) access in order to work, but it offers a full range of features including organization of text and images, local publishing for backup and more.

Tangelo creator Brad Rhine previously developed Frequency, a desktop weblog client that works with Web publishing systems like Blogger, Radio, Movable Type and other systems. He said that Tangelo was developed for weblog users who want a system that's maintained on their own computer instead of a remote server.

Tangelo's features include support for sections, HTML-based shortcuts and weblog page templates. Tangelo also provides full support for Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and Atom feeds, and supports post-publishing from Ranchero Software's popular Mac news reader, NetNewsWire. Tangelo will also work with .Mac accounts, as long as you store files using your iDisk rather than FTP.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or higher and QuickTime, as well as "enough hard drive space to store your weblog files" and an active Internet connection; FTP publishing requires an account on an accessible FTP server. Tangelo costs US$39.95 (an introductory offer runs through March 1, 2005 for $29.95 instead).
