SMS Mac sends text to any mobile number

URL Manager Pro developer Alco Blom has released the first public beta version of SMS Mac, a plug-in for Apple's Address Book utility that lets users send a Short Message Service (SMS) message to any cell phone number in the world over the Internet. You do not need a mobile number yourself in order for SMS Mac to work.

SMS Mac supports Unicode and concatenated SMS messages, and in Europe will also support Flash SMS. Blom plans to add more specific SMS features as development continues. The software has been localized in English, German, French, Italian, Dutch and Norwegian and requires Mac OS X v10.3 or higher. In addition the the Address Book plug-in, a Dashboard version -- for Apple's forthcoming Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" release -- has also been developed. Users will be upgraded to that version for free once Tiger is released. SMS Mac costs € 17.50 (US$22.68) to subscribe to; that price includes 50 SMS messages. Additional SMS messages cost €0.15 (US$0.20) each.
