McAfee Inc. on Monday announced the release of Virex 7.6 for Macintosh, a new version of their virus detection and eradication software for Mac OS X. The new release is designed to offer small to large businesses centrally-managed virus protection for their Mac systems using McAfee’s ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) software.
Although Mac OS X systems are not susceptible to native viruses, they can pass along viruses, worms, Trojans and other malware designed to work on Windows systems. Virex can detect and eradicate those problems as well, and McAfee ePO helps system administrators to centrally manage their system security policies, evaluate their security status and customize reports while including Mac OS X systems as well.
Apple’s .Mac service includes a version of Virex that users can download. As MacCentral posted this article, that version was still 7.5.1.
