Newer miniStack now comes in 500GB capacity

Newer Technology Inc. has announced the availability of its miniStack peripheral in 320GB and 500GB storage capacities. The new miniStacks join 80, 160 and 400GB models already available and cost US$289.99 and $499.99 respectively.

Both new miniStacks feature 7200RPM hard disk mechanisms with an 8MB data buffer. The miniStack is designed to fit on top of or underneath Apple’s Mac mini. In addition to providing greater storage capacity than the mini allows, the miniStack also features a two-port FireWire and three-port USB 2.0 hub. Newer also makes a do-it-yourself version that comes without a hard disk drive pre-installed.

The miniStack measures 6.5 x 6.5 x 1.5 inches. It comes with a “smart power switch” that turns the drive on with your mini and a thermal probe that regulates and varies the speed of a built-in fan.
