Blizzard Entertainment has just released a new v1.11 patch for Diablo II. The best way to grab it as MacCentral has posted this news article is to connect through Blizzard’s Battle.net service, where it will be updated automatically.
Diablo II is an action game that borrows elements from role playing games. In a medieval world, you can take the role of an Amazon, Paladin, Sorceress, Barbarian and Necromancer as you face off against the Prime Evil Diablo, who, teamed with Mephisto and Baal, is determined to enslave humanity. You visit distant lands, explore dungeons deep underground and more as you seek the weapons, mystical tools and experience necessary to defeat the evil once and for all.
It’s been five years since Diablo II first came on the scene, but that hasn’t stopped Blizzard Entertainment from continuously supporting the game. The company has regularly released updates to Diablo II for both Mac OS and Windows, including an installer that allows users to install both Diablo II and its expansion pack natively in Mac OS X.
At least part of the game’s enduring popularity can be explained by its support of Battle.net, Blizzard’s own free online gaming service. Battle.net players regularly play Diablo II online, despite the rise of other popular Blizzard games like Warcraft III and World of Warcraft.
The new 1.11 update get a new Mystery for players of “Hell” difficulty. “The answer lies within Diablo’s Bosses, which span across the world from the Den of Evil to the Throne of Destruction,” notes Blizzard.
New items have been added, and hirelings have been enhanced as well. Blizzard has also made major and minor bug fixes and closed several exploits that some unscrupulous users could use to cheat. A complete list of what’s changed is available online.
If you can’t or don’t want to connect through Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment will also post separate patches on its Web site.
