Flip4Mac WMV adds Compressor 2 support

Nevada City, Calif.-based Telestream has announced the release of Flip4Mac WMV Studio v1.0.6. The new release adds Windows Media Video (WMV) encoding support for Apple Compressor 2. A free update for registered users, Flip4Mac WMV Studio costs $99.

Flip4Mac WMV is made up of QuickTime components which enable Mac users to play, make and edit Windows Media files from within QuickTime-based applications. Telestream sells the WMV player by itself for $9.99 — this lets users play Windows Media files in QuickTime Player itself. A $49 app imports Windows Media files into QuickTime editing applications. The $99 Studio app lets you make, edit and play Windows Media in QuickTime, while a $179 Studio Pro version lets you also make, edit and play Windows Media HD in QuickTime.

This new update lets users of Apple Compressor 2 batch-encode Windows Media files for the first time. Compressor 2 is an application Apple bundles with Final Cut Pro 5 that lets users batch-encode and convert QuickTime files to different formats; using Compressor 2, you can prepare files for use in DVD Studio Pro, for example, or convert between Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD).
