Klipsch introduces iGroove, iJam for iPod

Indianapolis, Ind.-based audio hardware maker Klipsch Audio Inc. has introduced two new accessories for iPod users — the iJam, a new “boom box” style speaker system that accommodates an iPod inside — and the iGroove, an all-in-one shelf speaker system designed for the iPod. The iJam’s pricing and availability was not announced, but Klipsch said the iGroove will be available this month for US$279.99.

The iJam uses dual 4.5-inch woofers and coaxial-mounted tweeters, along with a passive radiator on the rear of the enclosure boosts bass response. It can work on batteries but also comes with an A/C adapter. iPods are inserted into a bay that accepts any dock connector-equipped model; the iJam also features an FM tuner. Other music players can be connected using a stereo mini jack input.

The iGroove uses dual 2.5-inch fiber-composite woofers in a ported enclosure, dual 1-inch “MicroTractix Horn”-loaded tweeters, and a built-in iPod dock. The MicroTractix Horns are formed into the speaker baffle, a design that Klipsch claims offers the lowest diffraction and maximum energy release into the listening area.

The built-in dock works with all dockable iPods; other devices can connect using the included “J-Cup” adapter. An infrared remote control lets users control the system wirelessly. The iGroove is molded in a silver finish.
