iMac G5 VESA mount adapter gone, for now

It looks like the iMac G5’s VESA mounting days are behind it, at least until a third party comes up with a solution. With the introduction of the new and improved imac G5, Apple no longer offers a VESA mount adapter.

Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA)-compatible mounting brackets make it possible to fix computers and video displays on walls, articulated arms and other surfaces. They’re useful if you don’t want your computer or display to take up space on a desk or a shelf.

When Apple redesigned its flat-panel Cinema Displays and its first iMac G5, the company began to offer VESA mounting plates and adapters that allowed these systems to use such hardware.

Apple continues to offer an optional kit for its line of Cinema Displays but no longer offers a VESA mount adapter for the iMac G5, which it did up until the new iMac G5 was introduced on Wednesday.

An Apple spokesperson on Thursday confirmed for MacCentral that the old VESA mount adapter kit won’t work on the new iMac and added, “With the new iMac G5, there is an opportunity for third parties to come up with a new solution.”
