Your Vote Counts

As my colleague Jason Snell mentioned the other day, we’re up to our eyeballs preparing the final list of winners for our Editors’ Choice Awards right now. These are the annual honors we hand out to the best Mac hardware and software of the past 12 months, and, since we have a lot of products to choose from, it’s a lengthy, elaborate process. We have to separate the outstanding from the excellent, consider the quality and value of each product, and come up with a list of winners that truly stand out from the crowd.

And we asked ourselves, why should we have all the fun?

Just like last year, we’re turning to you to help us dole out a pair of trophies. We’re presenting two readers’ choice awards to the best hardware and software products of 2005—and you get to pick the winners.

Here’s the final list of contenders, culled from your nominations:

Hardware of the Year

  • iMac (with Front Row)
  • iPod nano
  • iPod with video
  • Mac mini
  • Mighty Mouse

Software of the Year

  • .Mac Backup 3.0
  • Audio Hijack Pro 2.5
  • Comic Life Deluxe Edition
  • DevonThink Professional 1.0
  • NetNewsWire 2.0
  • Opera 8.5
  • Mac OS X 10.4
  • Transmit 3
  • To cast your vote, go here and follow the instructions. The last day to vote is November 15. We’ll announce the readers’ choice winners—along with the rest of our Eddy Award selections—in the February 2006 issue of Macworld and at Macworld.com in December.
