Torque Game Engine enhances Mac support

GarageGames on Wednesday announced the release of the Torque Game Engine v1.4, an updated version of its engine for making 3D games. The new version — a free update for registered developers — features enhancements including superior support for the Mac.

Torque Game Engine is a multi platform game technology that’s been used to develop titles including Marble Blast, Orbz, ThinkTanks and Dark Horizons: Lore. In its fifth year of release, the game features advanced rendering capabilities, skeletal animation support, drag-and-drop GUI creation and a built-in world editor. It also features scripting, geometry, particle effects and more. It costs US$495 to register, or $100 for developers making less than $250,000 annually.

New to this release is integrated Unicode font rendering, enhanced map2dif interiors, better support for Mac OS X and support for the Theora video codec.

Also new to this release are enhancements to the localization process and simpler interaction with the GUI and World editors using a new integrated graphical tree-view.

GarageGames notes that version 1.4 will be the last free update to the Torque Game Engine.
