Iomega offers Desktop Hard Drive XL series

Iomega Corp. on Monday introduced the Desktop Hard Drive XL Series. The new Mac- and PC-compatible external hard disk drive line features a four-drive enclosure with a maximum combined capacity of 1 terabyte (TB). The drive costs US$899.95.

The Desktop Hard Drive XL connects to a host computer using either FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0. It measures 6.42 x 7.99 x 12.52 inches. The chassis supports Serial ATA (SATA)-based hard disk drive mechanisms, and Iomega uses drives that run at 7200RPM with 8MB of cache. They’re configurable as RAID Level 0, for maximum performance.

Also included is a copy of Dantz Retrospect Express software, to use the drive for backup and archival.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.1 or later and a G3 or G4 with built-in USB or FireWire.

Iomega’s Web site was not updated with information about the Desktop Hard Drive XL as MacCentral posted this article.
