Terra Soft offers Xserve bioinformatics cluster

Terra Soft Solutions, developers of PowerPC-based Linux operating system software that runs on Macs and other hardware, has announced the availability of a $47,383 mobile pre-configured Xserve cluster designed specifically for the Bio-IT market.

The Y-Bio Cluster is an eight-node cluster based on an Apple Xserve G5 “head node” equipped with 4GB RAM, 1TB storage, Combo optical drive and graphics card, along with 7 dual 2.0GHz cluster nodes, each with 4GB RAM and 80GB hard disk drives.

The hardware runs Terra Soft’s Y-HPC operating system and has been configured in an Xrack Pro 2 mobile cluster housing. Also included is an HP Procurve 2724 switch with 24 10/100/1000baseT Ethernet ports; TORQUE Resource Manager and Moab Cluster Suite by Cluster Resources; 64-bit gcc and tool chain, IBM XLF/C compilers, Y-HPC 64-bit OS and Cluster Construction/Management Suite and Y-Bio bioinformatics software suite.

The Moab Cluster Suite enables users to submit jobs and manage workload through a Web-based interface. Moab provides administration tools like scheduling, reporting and job monitoring; visual tracking of architecture, OS, status and CPU utilization and more. The tools work with Mac OS X, Windows and Linux operating systems.

the Y-Bio informatics suite provides genetics sequence analysis tools including NCBI BLAST, EMBOSS, Glimmer, ClustalW, HMMER, Wise and FAST-A.
