Mark/Space has announced a Universal Binary release of its synchronization software for Palm devices and Mac OS X, The Missing Sync. Version 5.1 is a free update for registered 5.x users and can be downloaded from the Mark/Space Web site. It costs $39.95 for a new registration.
The Missing Sync provides the ability for many Palm-based PDAs and smartphones that don’t ship with Mac synchronization software to work with the Mac. It also provides additional features and capabilities not included in the Palm Desktop and HotSync software included with some Palm devices and Apple’s own iSync software — syncing work address, Instant Message address, birthday, calendar categories and more.
Besides Universal Binary support for Intel-based Macs, The Missing Sync 5.1 also includes iPhoto and iTunes syncing, folder sync, Spotlight memo searching and Sync Services support for better Address Book and iCal syncing. New handheld backup options have been added, and handling has been improved for calendar events that are assigned to specific time zones.
