Zimbra has announced a Universal Binary release of its Zimbra Collaboration Suite, an e-mail and collaboration server and application. The company offers a free open-source version and a commercially supported Network Edition that costs $28 per mailbox per year.
Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) 3.0 features e-mail, contacts, group calendaring and other collaboration features. It includes support for Apple’s own iCal and Mail software, as well as Xsan-based storage. The Network Edition adds support, upgrades, online backup and restore, delegated administration, MAPI connectivity and various other features.
Zimbra claims the Universal Binary version of ZCS runs up to five times faster on Intel-based Macs than it does on PowerPC-based systems.
