Delkin offers ExpressCard/34 CompactFlash adapter

Delkin has announced its eFilm ExpressCard 34, which lets laptops like Apple’s MacBook Pros transfer data to and from a CompactFlash memory card. It’s expected to begin shipping on October 16, 2006 for $59.99.

ExpressCard/34 is the new expansion card format used in the MacBook Pro — the 34 indicates 34 millimeters (mm), the width of the slot (there’s also a physically wider ExpressCard/54 format). ExpressCard offers higher transfer speeds than the PC Card slot found in PowerBooks. The eFilm ExpressCard 34 works in both 34mm and 54mm slots, with a transfer rate of up to 20 MB/s, according to Delkin.

Delkin expects the eFilm ExpressCard 34 to appeal to pro photographers who have upgraded to MacBook Pros since they were introduced in January of this year — without it, photographers have had to rely on bulkier external flash memory card readers or direct connections to transfer data from their CompactFlash-based digital cameras.

System requirements call for a MacBook Pro and Mac OS X v10.4 or later.
