SageTV launches Placeshifter for the Mac
Home media center software company SageTV on Monday launched its placeshifting application for Mac OS X. SageTV Placeshifter, which will be available this month, will allow Mac users to connect to a SageTV Media Center running on Windows or Linux.
“Many homes today have both Mac and Windows computers, but until now there has been no media center that completely supported both platforms,” said Mike Machado, CEO of SageTV. “Now family members can access their home TV and personal digital media library on any Mac or Windows machine in the home or even away, whether at the office, a hotel, the airport or a Wi-Fi café, with the same SageTV Media Center interface.”
According to the company, Placeshifter will also allow Mac users to connect to the SageTV Media Center to watch, pause, rewind and fast-forward live or recorded programs, schedule recordings of a single show or a whole season and access the same personal video recording (PVR) and media center interface available if you were at home.
Placeshifter allows users to watch different programs at the same time without conflicting with one another. With one tuner in the SageTV Media Center-equipped PC, one user can watch any live or recorded TV while the other watches any recorded TV. With two tuners, both parties can also watch either live or recorded TV at the same time. The software also includes an integrated guide for the U.S., Canadian and Europe.
The SageTV Placeshifter software for Mac will be available as a $99.95 bundle with SageTV Media Center for Windows and Linux. Additional concurrent placeshifting connections will be available for $29.99 each.
