Device Central CS3 simplifies mobile content creation

With the release of Creative Suite 3, Adobe is tackling ways to help its content creators and creative pros to expand into the mobile market. With Device Central CS3, Adobe believes it has found the solution.

“In many ways it’s an extension of what we are doing in the rest of the company,” Anup Murarka, Adobe’s Director for Technical Marketing, Mobile and Devices, told Macworld. “How do people reach their customers in print, Web and increasingly on mobile phones. It extends everything Adobe has done on other media to mobile.

Device Central is a software component that is integrated into Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design, Web and Production Premium editions, as well as individual products, including Flash CS3 Professional, and Photoshop.

Using Device Central creative pros can preview their work and test mobile content instantly within their authoring environments. Device Central features a built-in library of more than 200 mobile device profiles from Nokia and Sony Ericsson, among others and operators such as Verizon, so users can view at-a-glance details on the capabilities, constraints and features of individual devices. The profiles will be continuously updated by Adobe as new phones come out.

When testing content using Device Central, creative pros are able to interact with Adobe Flash Lite content as they would on a real phone. The device emulator ensures that user interfaces, applications, and mobile media work as expected, while also estimating performance and memory consumption.

Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and Standard and Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium and Standard will begin shipping in April 2007. Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium and Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection will begin shipping worldwide in the third quarter of 2007.

Creative Suite 3 Design Premium will cost $1799, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium will be $1599, Creative Suite 3 Production Premium is $1699 and the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection will cost $2499. There are also numerous upgrade paths available for Adobe customers.
