VMware files plans for IPO

EMC and its subsidiary VMware announced Thursday that they've filed a Form S-1 Registration Statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in order to make an initial public offering (IPO) of Class A Common Stock of VMware.

VMware makes virtualization products used broadly in corporate enterprise environments; they've also migrated into the consumer space, even competing with Parallels for the attention of Mac users with a still-in-development product called VMware Fusion.

The companies announced that the IPO will offer about 10 percent of VMware's Class A Common Stock.

"Citi, JPMorgan and Lehman Brothers are acting as the representatives of the underwriters and, together with Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch & Co. and Deutsche Bank Securities will act as joint book-running managers of the offering," reads a statement offered by VMware.
