Equinux has announced the release of MediaCentral 2.6, an updated version of its home theater software for the Mac. A free update for registered users, MediaCentral costs $29.95 to register.
MediaCentral gives you a central way of navigating your Mac if you plan to use it as a peripheral for your home entertainment experience. You can use MediaCentral to watch TV, view movies, DVDs, play games, listen to music, listen to Internet radio, view digital photos, view picture feeds, watch IP-based TV, chat with friends on Skype and much more.
New to the 2.6 release is the ability to watch digital TV using Equinux’s companion “TubeStick” device. The TubeStick and its included software, The Tube, let you watch and record Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial (DVB-T), the digital terrestrial TV standard used throughout Europe (it’s not available in the US or Canada). You can also use an Apple Remote or keyboard spaceboard to pause and continue watching running programs (timeshifting).
Also new to this release are joint channel lists with The Tube. Now DVDs can be ejected without an enhanced keyboard, and MediaCentral is more stable.
