Penny Arcade Expo — the annual gamer’s convention in Seattle, Wash. — will return for a fifth year in 2008. The event’s organizers have announced that the next show will happen on August 29 - 31, 2008 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle.
The event has become a fixture for video game enthusiasts, tabletop gamers and others, drawing more than 37,000 attendees in 2007. It’s an outgrowth of Penny Arcade, a web comic created by Jerry “Tycho” Holkins and Mike “Gabe” Krahulik, who several times a week post irreverent cartoons that lampoon or satirize the latest news in the video game world, often at the expense of high-profile industry leaders, companies and games.
PAX 2007 featured panels, tournaments, concerts and other gaming-related activities, along with a keynote address delivered by none other than Wil “Wesley Crusher” Wheaton, noted actor, author and geek icon.
The event’s organizers noted PAX’s doubling of attendance each year it’s been held, and playful anticipated that PAX 2008 will draw “forty-seven million bajillion people.”
