Rogers adds new data plan promotion for iPhone 3G
Unfortunately, it’s not the unlimited plan that many had hoped for, and it will cost you some extra dough, but at least it might help forestall the massive overage rates that consumers would otherwise have had to pay.
In a pair of press release, Rogers and Fido announced that they would be providing a plan that includes 6GB of data for an additional CDN$30/month. The deal, however, is only available as a promotion starting on July 11th with the phone’s release and running until August 31st. It’ll require a
3-hour tour 3-year contract, and you’ll have to add it to an existing voice plan.
But how much will 6GB get you, really? Well, they’re more than happy to spell it out for you:
…with 6GB of data, iPhone 3G users can visit 35,952 web pages, or send and receive 157,286 emails, or watch 6,292 minutes of YouTube videos each and every month.
Fortunately, studies have shown that it’s that 6,293rd minute of watching YouTube that’ll put you into a catonic state. Gee. Those are awfully exact numbers—I pity the poor Rogers intern that they actually made watch YouTube for over 4 days. That man has seen enough skateboarding dogs to last himself a lifetime.
Rogers is opening stores in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, and elsewhere early for the launch (Fido will also be opening its flagship Montreal store early) to accommodate iPhone shoppers customers—check the press releases above for the full list. And get this: they’ll serve you a free breakfast (my bet’s on something including Canadian bacon) and give out prizes. I guess they’re really sorry about all the stress they’ve put people through.
