New iPods excluded from Apple back to school promo

As they do every year, Apple launched its summer back to school promotion to encourage students to purchase a Mac. One of the ways Apple does that is to offer a rebate for an iPod touch or iPod nano with the purchase of a Mac.

If students thought they could wait until the iPod event on Tuesday to snag a brand new iPod, they were wrong. Apple updated its FAQs saying the “iPod models introduced on September 9, 2008 are not eligible for this promotion. iPod classic and iPod shuffle are also not eligible.”

The promotion, which ends on September 15, 2008 requires that a student purchase a MacBook Air, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or iMac to be eligible for the iPod rebate.

The total rebate offered for an iPod is $209, which is enough for an iPod nano and almost enough to cover an iPod touch at current retail prices. You can get full details on the promotion from Apple’s Web site.
