When it comes to multifunction devices, versatility is a good thing, and Canon’s $280 Pixma MX850 () is one of the most versatile multifunctions out there.
The MX850’s five-color print output rivals that of some low-cost laser printers, and the quality of its photos is particularly impressive (not always the case with multifunctions). It has plenty of features that small businesses will appreciate, such as an automatic document feeder for the copier, a duplexer for printing double-sided documents, and a fax machine. It will even please creative types, with its memory-card slots, PictBridge for connecting a digital camera directly to the MX850, and a 4,800-by-9,600-dpi scanner.
The MX850 has an easy-to-use control panel for accessing the options, or for printing and scanning without having to use your Mac. It’s plenty fast, too—in other words, it’s pretty much everything you want in a multifunction.
