OWC intros USB 2.0 Display Adapter
Other World Computing (OWC) on Tuesday announced the release of the USB 2.0 Display Adapter, a device that makes it possible to connect an additional monitor to your computer using USB 2.0 instead of a display connection. It costs $99.
The device supports screen resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels, and works with DVI, HDMI and VGA-equipped displays. The interface can be used to mirror the image on your internal screen or to extend the desktop to allow you to use more applications or open more windows at the same time.
The USB 2.0 Display Adapter comes with a USB to DVI adapter, software, four-foot USB 2.0 cable, DVI to VGA adapter and DVI to HDMI swivel adapter.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later.
OWC notes the USB 2.0 Display Adapter does not support OpenGL graphics acceleration, so it won’t fully support applications and system features that require OpenGL, such as some effects in Keynote presentations, iPhone slideshows and iMovie.
The device is similar in concept to products licensed by DisplayLink; it is unknown if this device originated with DisplayLink or one of its manufacturing partners.
