iPhone stencil helps designers sketch out their app

Maybe you’re an iPhone designer who doesn’t like to be bound to mere software and hardware. Perhaps you yearn to get your hands on more tangible tools, like pencil and paper, when you sketch out the design for your killer flashlight/noise generator/Twitter app. In that case, Design Commission’s is here to feed your need for the traditional with its shiny new iPhone Stencil Kit.

Created from precision-cut stainless steel, the iPhone Stencil Kit includes an iPhone-sized stencil with which you can not only trace the appropriate sized interface, but also almost any iPhone control widget of your desiring. There are button stencils, slider stencils, icon stencils, playback control stencils, dialog box stencils, and even the ever-elusive star stencil.

Of course, that’s not all you get in the deal. Design Commission will also throw in a Zebra mechanical pencil for all your stenciling needs, as well as a downloadable PDF template of an iPhone to help you mock up your designs. Oh, and a couple of Design Commission stickers, because who doesn’t love stickers? (We hear Palm Pre developers hate stickers. And stencils. And puppies.)

The whole package costs just $17, and you can buy it from Design Commission’s own store (though it appears to be currently sold out). No word yet on whether applications designed with the stencil will work with the iPhone 3G S without adding the necessary speed lines.
