Triazzle is a popular puzzle game that sold more than 5 million copies since its introduction back in the ’90s. Now, Dreamship brings the challenging brain teaser to the iPhone and iPod touch in remarkable fashion.

Match Game: Triazzle has you solve a 9-piece (in this case) or 16-piece puzzle by matching the animal pictures on each side of the game’s triangle-sized pieces.

Triazzle is unlike many other puzzles in that all its pieces are of the same shape—a triangle. Each piece has half of an animal picture on it like a frog, butterfly, or turtle that you must get to match up on all three sides with the other pieces on the board.

At first glance, this might seem like an easy enough task to pull off, but it’s actually quite a challenge. While each piece can match up in multiple spots, there is only one correct way to place them all in order to solve the puzzle. For instance, you may place three matching pieces in a row only to realize there’s no way to solve the rest of the puzzle with those pieces where they are.

Don’t worry though—if you’re having trouble solving a puzzle, Triazzle is there to help. Just tap the Tips button at the top left of the screen, then tap a spot on the puzzle and Triazzle will show you which piece goes there. If you give up but want to see the solution to the puzzle, just shake your device and Triazzle will solve it for you piece by piece.

Triazzle has 9- and 16-piece puzzles with four levels of difficulty to choose from, including a Kids level that features simpler backgrounds, easier puzzles, and an unlimited number of tips. As you increase in difficulty, the puzzles become more challenging and the number of available tips decrease.

Triazzle’s intuitive interface makes it easy to pick up and just start playing. To solve a puzzle, you simply drag-and-drop the pieces into place. To rotate a piece you just tap it. Puzzle pieces can be placed anywhere on the screen and when you’re playing a 16-piece puzzle, all the pieces are stored in docks on each side of the screen. At any time, you can double tap the screen to hide the docks and reveal the entire background image.

Triazzle features absolutely beautiful graphics with more than 50 unique backgrounds and some great animations. Every one once in a while, frogs hop across the screen as you play and when you correctly match up pieces of the puzzle the animals come to life. Butterflies, flap their wings, fireflies shutter and glow and turtles poke their heads in and out. The more you solve the more everything comes to life.

The audio in Triazzle is second to none with its soothing sounds of nature in the background. Better yet is the wonderfully relaxing original music that transports you to another world. With its pleasing graphics, relaxing music, and unlimited amount of time to solve each puzzle, Triazzle lulls you into a zen like state far from stress. If you’re a fan of puzzles, Triazzle is a must-have. If you’re balking at spending $3 on the game—and you shouldn’t—the app is on sale right now for $2. What’s more, a just-released lite version of Triazzle gives you a taste of the game by offering 9-piece puzzles to solve.

Triazzle is compatible with any iPhone or iPod touch running the iPhone 2.2.1 software update.
