Scrivener offers hefty NaNoWriMo discounts

Next month will mark the tenth consecutive year of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), a global event in which each of its thousands of participants try to finish writing a 50,000-word (or more) novel by the end of the month of November. Last year, Macworld published a whole host of articles aimed at helping you prepare for the event and try to achieve the target; editorial director Jason Snell also posted a video covering Mac novel-writing tools this past Friday.

One of the applications mentioned in the Macworld video was Scrivener ( ), which allows you to write huge missives (like your upcoming novel) with more structure and ease than something like the humble TextEdit allows. And if you are planning to participate in the upcoming event, Literature and Latte—the folks behind Scrivener and the official “corporate” sponsor of NaNoWriMo this year—has some good news for you.

Although the regular Scrivener trial runs for thirty days—which is usually enough time to try out the application and get a feel for it—the special NaNoWriMo version downloadable through the linked page above will be a fully-functional trial beginning whenever you choose to download it and lasting until December 7. This will not only allow you enough time to try your hand at the application and get comfortable with it before the event kicks off, but it also gives you a week after the event to continue writing, do some editing, and even send the manuscript out to publishers.

What’s more, if you’re one of the NaNoWriMo winners (i.e., you manage to reach the target of 50,000 words by the end of November), you’ll be able to buy a license for Scrivener for just 50 percent of the regular price. And even if you don’t get to the finish line, entering the code “NANOWRIMO” in the coupon code field during the checkout process on Scrivener’s online store will get you a flat 20 percent discount, no questions asked (or 50,000 words demanded).
