Stardom announces Safe Capsule storage device for Time Capsule

Stardom Storage Solutions announced on Monday the new Safe Capsule, a two-drive RAID 1 solution designed to work with Time Capsule. Easily connected via USB, the Safe Capsule can act as a central storage hub on your network. Multiple users can share data through ethernet and wireless network connections thanks to Time Capsule’s networking capabilities. The Safe Capsule can also be used to provide more storage space for Time Capsule backups.

The Safe Capsule features a modular design that will allow users to remove, upgrade, and replace drives as need be. Though its main focus is as a mirrored RAID 1 drive system, Stardom indicates the Safe Capsule can also be configured for two drives running independently with storage of up to 4TB.

Security enthusiasts will take special note of the Safe Capsule’s auto-rebuild feature. Stardom claims that in the event of drive failure, the data can easily be rebuilt. A LED rebuild status display indicates the progress of the rebuilding process.

The Safe Capsule features three USB 2.0 ports to enable connectivity with shared devices such as printers, external hard drives and other USB peripherals. The press materials claim that the Safe Capsule can reach speeds of 480Mbps when directly attached to the computer system.

For those concerned with heat and noise, the Safe Capsule cools its two drives with an integrated 6 cm ball-bearing fan. Stardom also claims that “an internal power supply keeps your workspace clutter-free without the need for an external power brick or AC adapter,” though the details on how this internal unit is powered has not been revealed.

Though no release date has been set, Stardom states that the Safe Capsule is scheduled to ship during the winter of 2009 and pre-orders are being taken now.

Stardom is a division of Raidon.
