Sonic’s return to 2D on consoles is coming along a bit slower than expected. Sega delivered the news Thursday on the company's official blog, stating that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be coming out “in late 2010,” as opposed to the summer released promised at the time of the game’s announcement. To help buffer the bad news, Sega announced that Sonic 4 will also be coming to the iPod touch and iPhone, solving the mystery of the “question mark platform” that had existed on the game’s official site until recently.
The reason for Sonic 4’s delay, according to the official announcement, was to “allow the Development Team to focus on keeping the game high-quality, continuing tuning and balancing of levels and interface and overall maintaining the kind of polish that an important game like this demands.” The blog post also mentions that Sonic 4 will incorporate fan feedback into its development, a tact Sega’s taking “for the first time ever.”
