Incipio Silicrylic

  • Incipio Silicrylic (for original iPad)

    Macworld Rating

Incipio’s Silicrylic is a hybrid of two different iPad cases: It combines a cushiony silicone-rubber core with a rigid polycarbonate shell; the shell snaps securely around the iPad’s corners and edges and holds the silicone piece in place. That combo gives you the best of both worlds: The silicone makes the iPad easier to grip and provides some shock absorption, while the polycarbonate shell protects the tablet from sharper traumas. The silicone wraps carefully around the iPad’s ports and controls, leaving them nicely accessible. One other benefit of the two-piece strategy is that Incipio can sell four different color combinations, from black on black to lime, pink, or white on charcoal gray. The Silicrylic also comes with a clear-film screen protector, which is the case's only real flaw: Like so many screen films, this one doesn’t necessarily adhere cleanly to the iPad’s screen, resulting in bubbles and other visual impediments. Still, the Silicrylic is one of the nicer iPad shells we’ve seen.
