Apple updates MobileMe Gallery for iPhone 4

Apple seems to be making slow but steady updates to its collection of App Store apps that are not pre-packaged on its mobile devices. On Wednesday, MobileMe Gallery got the update treatment for iPhone 4—and the iPhone 4 alone.

Apple’s release of MobileMe Gallery 1.1.1, the company’s app for viewing photos on its MobileMe service, brings higher resolution artwork for the iPhone 4’s Retina display. It also allows you to download higher resolution photos (if your friends enable that feature for their galleries) when you’re on a Wi-Fi connection. A handful of bugs were also exorcised in this new version.

Unfortunately, Apple did not bring an iPad-specific interface to the MobileMe Gallery app with this update, leaving tablet users stuck with the blown-up iPhone view. To be sure, MobileMe galleries viewed via Safari on an iPhone or an iPad already serve up iOS-optimized versions, but the convenience that this app offers—quick links to friends’s galleries, downloading, and offline viewing—would be welcome on an iPad, especially the Wi-Fi model.

Apple's other apps, such as Texas Hold'em, Keynote Remote, and Remote, have yet to be updated for the iPhone 4's new display.
