Altec Lansing debuts Octiv Stage speaker system for iPad
Audio vendor Altec Lansing has released the company's first iPad-focused audio system, the Octiv Stage (MP450). Designed for use on a counter, desk, or dresser, the Octiv Stage provides a large cradle that can hold an iPad in portrait or landscape orientation, at a number of different angles—including horizontal for occasional onscreen typing sessions. The Octiv Stage also supports iPhone and iPod touch models.
According to Altec Lansing, the Octiv Stage's audio components have been optimized for both stereo audio and voice reproduction, the latter to enhance movie dialog when viewing video on an iPad. As with most dock-cradle speaker systems, the Octiv Stage charges your iPad, iPhone, or iPod while docked.
The system also includes an infrared remote control that allows you to navigate onscreen iPod-app menus, as well as a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) stereo auxiliary-input jack for connecting other audio sources.
The Octiv Stage is $150 and will be available starting November 16 at the Altec Lansing Website, Apple's online and retail stores, and "other fine retailers."
