Play stalk-the-dev at World of Warcraft: Cataclysm launch

To celebrate the worldwide launch of World of Warcraft's third expansion, Blizzard announced several "official" launch events from here to Taiwan featuring special entertainment opportunities.

Expect standard WoW launch event shenanigans like dance and costume contests. If you're more into the idea of meeting developers, however, keep an eye on specific locations for specific devs -- Blizzard divided up its staff fairly evenly to get at almost two per launch event around the globe.

The United Kingdom leads off Blizzard's list of launches with a London event at retailer GAME's Leicester Square location. Doors open at 10PM GMT on December 6 and festivities include a costume contest, merchandise showcase, photo opportunities, and giveaways. Blizzard developers Greg Street (Lead Systems Designer) and Dave Kosak (Game Designer) plan to attend.

Other European events also feature Blizzard devs with Cory Stockton (Lead Content Designer) and Rob Sevilla (3D Artist) in Spain, Joe Shely (Senior Game Designer I) and Russell Brower (Director of Audio) in Moscow, Carlos Guerrero (Sr. Game Producer) and Jesse McCree (Lead Level Designer) in Paris, John Lagrave (Sr. Game Producer) and Gary Platner (Lead Environment Artist) in Rotterdam, and Rob Foote (Senior Game Producer) and Ed Hanes (Level Designer) in Stockholm.

Blizzard's main U.S. launch party kicks off at Fry's Electronics in Fountain Valley, CA. Doors open at 9PM PST and activities include a performance by Blizzard's in-house and in-game band (The Artist Formerly Known As Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain), plus a dance contest. Blizzard doesn't have names for which developers plan to attend, but being local to Blizzard's Irvine, CA headquarters guarantees a couple of A-list devs.

Blizzard dev Ray Cobo (Senior Game Producer) plans to be in Toronto, Canada for their official Cataclysm launch. A dance competition is confirmed at this location, but so far no word on a costume contest.

The last major launch event rolls out in Taiwan at Red House in Taipei City. Paul Sams (Chief Operating Officer) and Ion Hazzikostas (Game Designer) are scheduled to appear.

If meeting developers isn't on your to-do list and you're not near any of these locations, call up your local GameStop or Best Buy to see what their midnight launch plans are. If it's standard wait-in-line procedure, consider downloading Cataclysm from Blizzard's site at 12 AM on December 7 instead of standing outside in the cold.
