Apple opens up new business with POS systems (9 to 5 Mac)
The iPod touch-based point-of-sale system that Apple uses in its retail stores has apparently escaped and taken refuge in Old Navy. The Gap-owned retailer confirmed that it was piloting the device in a few of its stores (it’s worth noting that former Gap CEO Mickey Drexler sits on Apple’s board). Wait: does that mean Apple gets 30 percent of the sales?
Activision cool to mobile, social games (Reuters)
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says the App Store’s not for his brand: “The place where you have the opportunities for growth is within the communities of franchises we control,” he told Reuters. “We don’t view the App Store as a really big opportunity for dedicated games.” Yeah! Nobody plays games on their phones, right? That’d be nuts.
Netflix is reportedly offering to pay between $70,000 and $100,000 for current episodes of primetime TV episodes. Man, somebody should tell them that you can stream most of them for free over at Hulu.
The current 3D trend just doesn’t take things far enough—you’ve got to wear those silly glasses, for one thing. An Apple patent suggests a way that 3D images could be projected right to your eyes. And all you have to do is wear one of these things.
