If you love Sesame Street’s Grover—and who doesn’t?—there’s a special holiday treat available this week: an iPad storytelling app starring the lovable Muppet.

The Monster at the End of This Book debuted Wednesday in the App Store, a product of the development team at Callaway Digital Arts. The short tale features an animated Grover, who helps youngsters learn to read by speaking the story’s words as they appear on the digital page. Grover spends the story fretting about the titular monster at the end of the book, and tries to convince readers to not turn the page.
If they comply, though, the little blue creature gets impatient.
“Aw, just get on with it and turn the page,” Grover harumphs, if there’s a pause in the action. “You know that’s what you’re going to do anyway.”
Grover’s attempts to halt—or encourage—a reader’s progress include activities that Sesame Street says will help youngsters with their spatial development and reading skills. The app also includes tips for parents who want to guide their children’s digital experience.
The Monster at the End of This Book is $1 for a limited time. The app is compatible with iPads running iOS 3.2 or later.
